Next Exhibition: Tsukasa Kanawa, Takura Suzuki -Where Time Stands Still-
N project is pleased to present a two-person exhibition, ‘Where Time Stands Still,’ featuring Tsukasa Kanawa and Takura Suzuki, from November 22 to December 19, 2024.
Tsukasa Kanawa and Takura Suzuki both work as painting staff at MATSUYAMA STUDIO in Brooklyn, New York, while also producing and exhibiting their own work as New York-based artists. Recently, they’ve begun to expand their activities in their native Japan, beginning with the group exhibition, “Field of Flux,” held in September 2023, by five Japanese artists from MATSUYAMA STUDIO. The following year, the five artists’ group exhibition was also held at the Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art (Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture), where some of their works were added to the museum’s collection. This two-person exhibition will be both Kanawa’s and Suzuki’s second exhibition at N project.
The exhibition, entitled “Where Time Stands Still,” features a total of 15 works, including the artists’ latest pieces. Based on the concepts of time that are polar opposites, “moment” and “eternity,” these works explore space and time from each artist’s perspective. Kanawa depicts the moment when sound and light intersect in a given environment, and expresses the feelings that arise from personal experiences, such as memories and emotions, associated with that given moment. Suzuki portrays the blurred boundaries between the universal, such as cultural norms in a community, and the ephemeral, such as fast-changing trends, in a contemporary society where the digital and material worlds coexist.
