Mariko Fujimoto and Tatsuya Matsushita will present their two-person exhibition ‘BREATH – Tokyo’ at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store Contemporary Art Gallery

December 23, 2025

Mariko Fujimoto and Tatsuya Matsushita will present their two-person exhibition ‘BREATH – Tokyo’ at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store 6F Contemporary Art Gallery from December 24, 2025 through January 5, 2026.

Both artists have cultivated distinct sensibilities while working together as members of the production team at New York–based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama’s studio. Engaging with art within the same environment, they capture the world through contrasting perspectives: the inner realm of the individual and the structure of the urban landscape.

Fujimoto conjures interior landscapes imbued with nostalgia and emotional flux through dreams, memory, and literary elements. Matsushita, on the other hand, perceives the rhythms and forms of the city as “organic geometry,” visualizing the pulse of life embedded within grids. The personal and the urban, stillness and movement, past and present—all intersect within their respective works. Though seemingly oppositional, their perspectives resonate deeply in their shared approach to touching upon layers of memory and giving form to invisible emotions, weaving a poetic dialogue in this exhibition.

Through the gaze of these two artists, viewers will find themselves drawing out the emotions and memories hidden within cityscapes and everyday scenes.
